Plaid always surfaces in the fall, but there seems to be more around than usual--thanks to shackets, perhaps? But this flannelette looked like it would make a cozy dress, so I gave it a try.

I had an idea to sew fancy patterns in casual fabrics to avoid having clothes in my closet that don't get a lot of wear. I liked the retro feel of the collar on McCalls 6833 dated 2013, and planned to go with a longer, full skirt and elbow-length sleeves. I've had problems with this kind of bodice before though, which gives an odd, droopy look to the bust. I tried many things to fix this: I changed the dart to gathers, then to multiple darts. I redrafted the top altogether with princess seams. Nothing worked!
